TE materials are used in an important class of ‘clean’ and ‘free-fuel’ energy conversion and harvesting devices.  The major output of this project, namely, design and fabrication of novel TE materials with high ZT will directly lead to a new generation of TE devices of high efficiency for direct heat to electrical energy inter-conversion, including refrigeration, power generation and waste-heat recovery (Rowe 1995; Mahan 1996; Mahan 1997; Rowe 2005).

Quantum dots are commonly used in biological applications due their high stability and longer lifetimes as compared to the organic dyes used for similar purposes.

Magnetic nanostructures are widely investigated for their extraordinary properties when their dimensionalities is reduced to the size range comparable to the scale of physical phenomena.
